MEET THE FINALISTS- Ola Adegbenro

Posted on 4 March, 2021 at 5:25 Comments comments (157)

NOMINATION CATEGORY: INSPIRATIONAL MOTHER OF THE YEAR

Ola Adegbenro, is a mother and a woman of many talents; a hobby baker, event planner, creator of Ankara (African print) inspired products and the founder of Colourful Beginnings; a charity that supports families with premature babies. She loves to see people around her happy and would do all in her power to make that happen.

She has two beautiful girls who were born at 23 weeks and 29 weeks respectively. Ola's first daughter was born at 23 weeks and two days with no chance of surviving, she spent nine months in five different hospitals, came home on oxygen and a feeding tube, with lots of hospital appointments. Seeing how tedious, mentally, physically and emotionally draining the experience of having a preemie baby was for herself, her family and other families she encountered, it became imperative to have a support group for families of preemie and sick babies where ideas, experiences, challenges and solutions can be shared. Her NICU experience with her first daughter inspired her to start a support group for families in similar situations, which has now become a registered charity in the UK. Her second daughter was born at 29 weeks exactly a month after starting Colourful Beginnings.

Colourful Beginnings shares stories of babies who have made it through NICU and come out healthy and strong. The success stories shared on their  social media platforms are there to encourage anyone with a baby in NICU. Sometimes the future looks bleak, but Colourful Beginnings hope that these stories would be sources of inspiration, hope and strength for the journey with their babies. They also share stories of babies who gained their angel wings too soon, this is to let families experiencing the same thing, know they are not alone and there are other families they can reach out to, if they ever need to. The platform also share/answer medical and non-medical questions, allowing other families to ask/answer questions.

In a nutshell, Colourful Beginnings is a platform where families can all come together to support each other, no matter what stage they are on their NICU journey or where in the world they are.

Apart from sharing stories, Ola and her team also send out mini care packages throughout the year to families in the UK and deliver Christmas Care Packages to hospitals during the festive periods. The numbers of hospitals they are able to deliver to depends on funding and donations. They have delivered Christmas Care Packages to families in hospitals for the past 4 years and hope to continue to do so.

Last year, due to Covid-19, the charity was unable to deliver their Christmas Care Packages to families in hospitals, instead they hosted an online auction to raise funds, to help new mums with essential items they need to start on their journey of parenthood.

Giving back, helping others and putting a smile on people's faces is a great passion of Ola's. She prays for the grace to be able to continue to do that cheerfully.

She reached a moment in her life, when the pain was too much to bare and gave up her life to follow God's life. MEET THE FINALISTS- Candice Lee

Posted on 3 February, 2021 at 13:00 Comments comments (7)

NOMINATION CATEGORY: MUMPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

Butterflyy Productions is owned & run by London born, multi-business owner & mummy of two, Candice Lee. A true mumpreneur.

The Butterflyy Productions brand, phrased as the “Mama Butterflyy” to all the businesses within the brand, encourages and inspires others not to settle for mediocrity. It promotes the notion to set goals and then to step out of the comfort zone to go and achieve them.

The phrase the Butterflyy Productions brand encapsulates is; “Just when the caterpillar thought her life was over, she emerged a beautiful butterfly.” That is because at a time when Candice’s personal circumstances were at one of her lowest points, one of the biggest blessings of her life emerged.

We all have a story to tell and experiences to share, and on the Butterflyy Productions journey, Candice is sharing hers as a blogger and speaker. She is a firm believer that we are the creators of our own destiny, we just have to want better for ourselves badly enough to ignore the negative voices we hear and step into our potential greatness. This does not always have to be business related, it can be better health, better family relationships, a better relationship with ourself, improved financial stability. Whatever it is, if we truly desire it, we can achieve it.

Alongside the motivational speaking element, Candice has also added a charity and community element to the brand. Stemming from personal experiences and a strong desire to give back and share the blessings, Butterflyy Productions holds events specifically for the community, and events for charity. During the 2020 lockdown, Butterflyy Productions held free Zoom Community events, such as the Kids-Cook-Along and plans to host physical community events as soon as its safe to do so. The charity element of Butterflyy Productions came to fruition in 2020 when an online charity auction was held to raise fund for Tommy’s Baby Charity & raise awareness of pregnancy loss.

The businesses themselves that stem from the Butterflyy Productions brand, include award winning natural skincare products Butterflyy Bliss, property maintenance service Butterflyy Property Services & event hosting Social Butterflyy Events.

Before starting her own business, Candice qualified and trained in the legal profession, as a barrister. The need for professionalism, attention to detail, effective communication and following legalities and regulations, have enabled her to inter-weave these skills into the fabric of her business.

Candice understands the strength & resilience it takes to not only be a woman in business, but also do this whilst trying to maintain successfully her most important role in life, being a mum. Everything she does is for the aim of a better life and to be a positive example and role-model to her two handsome sons. It is by no means easy, but Candice wants to encourage others who are thinking of making the same leap that it is possible.

Candice is passionate about using her own experiences and refusing to let circumstances stop the determination she has to lead an enriched, successful and triumphant life, to encourage others to do the same. Candice constantly encourages those around her to seek out their dreams and goals and work towards them.

We can not wait to celebrate this mother of excellence on 14th of March 2021.

Titi Windapo is the founder of Towin Academy in Dagenham, a tuition centre which specialises in preparing children for the 11+ exams. She has successfully managed the tuition centre for over twelve years and supported hundreds of children and their families on their 11+ journey and helped them access education in selective grammar and independent schools.

She is a qualified chartered accountant with over 20 years of experience in the public sector including the Department for Education. After many years of practising accountancy, she decided to pursue her passion for teaching, starting with her own children and children of close friends and family.

Titi taught in a local primary school for about five years on a part-time basis. This gave her the opportunity to infuse her unique style of teaching and develop a Key Stage 2 curriculum to support the school’s objectives, to increase the overall performance of children particularly those preparing for SATS exams.

Since 2008, she has held an annual ‘free’ 11+ information event intended to guide, educate, equip and empower parents on how best to access selective schools and effectively prepare their children for the 11+ exams. She is also the author of the ‘11+ Exams Study Planner,’ to support parents and their children.

She is an enthusiastic long-distance runner and participates in marathons. For the past three years, she has actively supported and used her marathon races to raise thousands of pounds for a school in Liverpool, for children that are blind or partially sighted.

Titi believes every child should have the opportunity to reach their full potential particularly in their education. In addition, she believes it is important to create the right environment for every child to flourish and lay the solid foundation, particularly during the early years and primary school age.

She is a woman of faith, a catalyst for reaching out to the wider and immediate community in diverse ways. She believes that the future depends on what is deposited in the child today therefore the right education and support is essential to change lives, homes, nations and the world.
